Description

South African war resisters and their supporters protested outside South Africa House in London on 12 January 1980. A period of service in the South African Defence Force was compulsory for young white South Africans. A significant number left the country rather than fight against SWAPO guerrillas in Namibia and Angola. In 1979 they formed the Committee on South African War Resistance (COSAWR).
